Dear Collingswood Athletes and Friends:
SCHOLARSHIPS
Thirteen Colls High senior student-athletes were awarded a record
$60,000 in scholarships at
this year's awards banquet. These included three new scholarships
funded by Floss Mitchell, a
member of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors in memory of her husband
Bill Mitchell, a
charter inductee into the Hall of Fame; and in memory of Hank Deighan,
and in honor of
George Pims. Mitchell, Deighan and Pims were teammates on Skeets
Irvine's 1942 undefeated
football team. The fourth new scholarship established this year
is presented by the Class of
1947.
Deniken/Blankley - $10,000 to Melissa Hogan - Messiah College
Hall of Fame - $8,000 each to A.. J. Calderone - Rutgers University
(Camden) and Brianna
Sobolewski - Rutgers University (New Brunswick)
Olinger/Thayer - $8,000 each to Justin Halpern - George Washington
University and Caitlin
Morrison - Washington College
Bill Mitchell - $8,000 to Jesse Hamrick - Gloucester County College
Hubie Werner - $4,000 to Kyle Roof- Marist College
Class of 1947 - $2,500 to Jonathan McCarthy - Drexel University
Jack Earle - $1,000 to Scan Rader - University of Delaware
Roy J. Burkholder - $500 to Kristina Olsen - Stonehill College
George Pims - $500 to Pete Leonard - Drexel University
Hank Deighan - $500 to Patrick Walsh - Gloucester County College
We would also like to thank the Collingswood Rotary Club for their
$500 contribution that has enabled us to award an additional scholarship
for the second year in a row. The Service Above Self Award - $1,000
was presented to Alyssa Jones.
SPRING SPORTS
Boys' Volleyball, coached by Joe Gillespie, won their fourth straight
Olympic National Division Championship. The team finished with a
14-8 record with a line-up of all underclassmen. In state tournament
action, they beat Howell High School, before losing to Southern
Regional, the #1 ranked team in the state. Juniors Harrison Carsillo
and Ismael Candelario were selected All South Jersey 1st and 2nd
team respectively. Girls' LaCrosse, coached by Stephanie LaMaina,
had another excellent season with a 13-8 record. They upset New
Egypt in the state tourney before suffering a loss to Shore Regional,
the #2 ranked team in the state. Senior Vicky Roddy netted her 100th
career goal in a 14-11 victory over West Deptford. First team all
Group I honors went to Seniors Caitlin Morrison (midfielder) and
Nicole Valianti (defense). The Baseball team, coached by Rick Pentz,
had a 17-9 season. In state tournament action, they lost to Sterling
Regional, the eventual Group II S. J. Champs. Junior Tim Kerr (P)
and Senior Mike Anstotz (Inf) were chosen for second team all Group
II. Other award winners were softball player Brianna Sobolewski
(Sr., OF) and track thrower Sara Pierson (So., discus) making second
team all Group II.

In 2008, we’ll be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Collingswood

Lindsay Hanson, Class of '99, has been hired as Rowan University's
women's lacrosse coach. Lindsay was
an '03 Rowan grad, lettering for four years, and serving as team
captain as a senior.
John Koss, Class of '92, and our only two time state wrestling
champion will be inducted this November in
the S. J. Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Welcome to Collingswood to Dr. Scott Oswald as Superintendent of
Schools, and congratulations to Jim
Bathurst on his retirement.

eighteenth induction banquet at the Crowne
